Out Front’s 2020 Season Goes Digital

Due to the effects of the coronavirus, Out Front Theatre Company has postponed its season until later this summer – but will present select plays digitally following a pay-what-you-can principle.

As a result of having to cancel and postpone performances to combat the spread of the COVID-19, Out Front has quickly switched its strategy to include virtual viewing parties of past plays. First up is the digital video recording of the hilarious Christmas extravaganza, The Ethel Merman Disco Christmas Spectacular! The show imagines what Ethel Merman’s unaired 1979 Christmas television special would be like. Taking place on stage at the iconic Studio 54, the same year that the Queen of Broadway released her now-famous disco record, the show is filled with classic Christmas song set to a dance floor beat and punctuated by such stars as Andy Warhol, Donna Summer, Truman Capote, and more.

The digital content is easy to get your hands on: go to outfronttheatre.com, click the link to purchase tickets, and pay the price that works best for you. You’ll receive a link and password to unlock the exclusive material, and you can start watching any time and right away. Out Front is working hard to secure the rights to release even more digital videos following this platform.

“Boys in the Band” from this season has been rescheduled for August 13 – August 29, 2020, and the new 2020/2021 season starts in October with cult favorite “Xanadu” along with a holiday show and more. Check out outfronttheatre.com for a full schedule of the remaining and new season.
