New Leadership at Positive Impact Health Centers

Larry Lehman, currently serving as Chief Executive Officer, Positive Impact Health Centers

Positive Impact Health Centers (PIHC) announced last week that a planned leadership transition will take place over the next year. After more than three decades of transformative leadership, Larry Lehman will step down as Chief Executive Officer on December 1, 2026, continuing in a consulting role for two years to ensure a seamless transition. Joey Helton, currently serving as Chief Operating Officer of the organization, has been selected by the Board of Directors to assume the role of CEO following Lehman’s transition.

Under Lehman’s leadership, PIHC has grown from a $3 million organization in 2015 to a statewide leader in HIV care, prevention, research, and behavioral health with a $200 million budget in 2025, all with the goal of bringing 15,000 Georgians into care. His tenure has been defined by compassionate service, strategic growth, and a steadfast commitment to the well-being of the HIV Community.

“This transition represents a healthy and natural next step for PIHC,” said Larry Lehman, Chief Executive Officer. “The organization’s strength has always come from its people — our staff, clients, and partners. I have complete confidence that Dr. Helton will continue to advance our mission with the same heart, excellence, and community focus that define PIHC.”

Helton has served in senior leadership roles at PIHC for more than ten years and has been a central figure in the agency’s growth and program innovation.

“It’s an honor to continue this work and to build on the incredible foundation Larry has laid,” said Helton. “Our focus remains the same: to deliver compassionate, high-quality care and to expand access for those who need it most. This is a moment to celebrate our progress and look ahead with confidence.”

Board Chair Lara Martin praised Lehman’s impact and expressed optimism about the organization’s future.

“Larry changed lives and changed this organization,” said Martin. “He built PIHC into a place where clients are always at the center and staff can make a professional home for themselves. Joey has spent the last decade embodying that same spirit of compassion, intelligence, and competence. The Board has complete faith in his ability to lead PIHC into the future.”

Board Vice Chair Adrian King echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the Board’s confidence and preparation.

“Larry’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping PIHC’s mission and success,” said King. “At the same time, Joey brings a remarkable combination of experience, relationships, and energy to this next chapter. This transition reflects thoughtful planning and a shared commitment to continuity, innovation, and impact.”

The PIHC Board of Directors has been working with both leaders for more than a year to develop a detailed succession plan that ensures continued operational stability and alignment with the organization’s long-term vision.
